Adaptogenic Low Sugar Cherry Crisp is the perfect combination of flavors, made with real wholesome ingredients.
As you babes know my food philosophy is all about balance, nourishing our minds and bodies. Keeping that in mind, I don’t believe in the word dessert, I do believe food is food and as long as you are eating in a mindful, nourishing way, you can eat whatever you like.
I think that’s why I am SUCHHH a huge fan of eating evolved chocolate. I love their philosophy with chocolate being food not candy. Babes, this crisp is the perfect sexy, tasty and full of healthy benefits dish that will make your heart swoon.
I love adding adaptogens to just about anything, it lets me balance out my mood and hormones in a more holistic way. I change them up depending on what I feel like I need and what goes best with the foods I’m cooking or playing around with. Tart cherries go perfectly with the earthiness that ashwagandha has and also plays well with the spicy flavor cinnamon adds to it.
This crisp is the perfect heading into fall baked good, I am basically bouncing off the walls excited because summer is almost over and fall is almost here!
I know, I’m one of the weird ones and no it isn’t just because I want a pumpkin spice latte. I’m actually crazy happy when the air gets chiller and the leaves start dropping.
I should make a song about this…
Or I should just stick to creating awesome recipes for all of you and not get tempted to change careers.
Hahaha. Laugh with me. If you don’t then I’m the weird girl just sitting their staring at her screen, laughing…
Wait I am that girl regardless
Back to tart cherry crisp land.
This beauty here is filled with natural fats, healthy grains and fiber PLUS it is very low in sugar which is what I am all about.
I also should have said at some point that I really love crisps, and it yells fall to me. Sooo you can image where the flavors are falling. I’ve been taking advantage of cherry season and buying LOADS of cherries, pitting them and freezing them. That way I can rock my tart cherry health benefits all year long.
Oh and being able to sneak in collagen everywhere is also one of the jobs I signed up for a couple yeas ago when I started rocking the collagen jean jacket look, or just the regular collagen look.
I’m swooning over the new flavors of collagen peptides that vital protein has brought into this magical world. Likeeeee I wanna dance…
One of these days I might share my inner weird collagen peptides happy dance with you..
Until then try this crisp hehe.
Okayyyy my babes make sure you give this delicious tart cherry crisp a try.
WHAT YOU NEED
1 lb of tart cherries, pitted, I used fresh cherries, see note if using frozen
1 T of vanilla extract
1/4 cup of vanilla ghee, I love using Fourth & Heart
2 scoops of collagen peptides, I used the new mixed berry from Vital Protein **
2 T of chia **
1 cup of gluten free oats, I use Bob’s Red Mill
1/2 cup of unsweetened flaked coconut
1/2 cup of raw chopped almonds, I roughy chopped whole almonds
1 T of monk fruit sweetener, I love using it because it doesn’t spike my blood sugar
1 tsp of salt
2 tsp of cinnamon
2 tsp of ashwagandha
WHAT TO DO
Preheat oven to 375 degrees
In a large bowl combine the cherries, chia seeds, vanilla extract and collagen peptides. In another bowl combine the rest of the ingredients. Use your hands to create a crumbly texture.
In a oven safe casserole dish, spoon in the cherry mixture and then crumble the oat mixture on top. Bake for 30 minutes until, bubbly and golden brown.
Let cool slightly and enjoy!
I love eating this with coconut yogurt as after dinner snack or even for breakfast with a matcha or chaga latte.
if using frozen tart cherries, make sure you thaw then out and add an additional 2 T of chia seeds, this will create a nice thick filling. I also like to add an additional scoop of collagen to this.
