Hi, my friends. Happy Tuesday! Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day and while everyone out there is sharing great date ideas and what to do with your loved one, I wanna talk about SINGLE GIRL PROBLEMS. Oh and chocolate. But first, let me backtrack a bit and explain myself some more. A few weeks ago I was asked if I would be interested in reading the lovely and bold book by Andrea Bain, Single Girl Problems. While I really could not wait to jump into the book, my week was a little on the wild side and I knew I wanted to immerse myself in the book without any distractions so since I knew I was taking a- me -weekend, I saved it for this past weekend. I went for a hike, got back home had a smoothie, and went to the gym and hit the sauna with this book in hand. I didn’t want to leave the sauna because the book was WAY too good to put down. Then I realized an hour had past and I needed to go back home hydrate and continue to read this book. I took out some dark chocolate and finished the book that night.
I was in awe because I mean it’s something I always hear WHY ARE YOU STILL SINGLE and I honestly feel like saying, WTF.? While I would like to find someone and spend the rest of my life with them, I don’t want my life to be defined because I A) found someone to marry me and B) had a kid.
Be a successful wellness blogger + mental health advocate and also inspire people, that is what I want to be known for, not my ability to find someone and then walk down the aisle and a year later pop out a kid. PLEASE do not get offended by this statement but there is so much more to successful women than that. SO again this book is exactly what I feel like should be said, Andrea is pushing the boundaries that society has laid out and is saying it is okay to say F that.
Oh, and I am BEYOND excited because she is joining us on Tea Time and while she isn’t here to enjoy all the chocolate goodies, it was still incredibly awesome to be able to have her join us virtually.
TEA TIME WITH ANDREA BAIN AUTHOR OF SINGLE GIRL PROBLEMS
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO WRITE SINGLE GIRL PROBLEMS?
What inspired me to write SGP was a conversation with a woman who told me that I’d be an author one day. Of course, I didn’t believe her, but she planted that seed in my mind. Ten years after many relationships and even more conversations about relationships the idea just came to me.
IF YOU COULD GIVE YOUR 15-YEAR-OLD SELF ADVICE WHAT WOULD IT BE?
If I could talk to my 15-year-old self I’d say “Girl, don’t cut your own bangs before picture day!” No in all seriousness I’d say don’t look for your happiness or validation in a guy. You are enough! Everything you’re going through is teaching you a lesson so pay attention.
MY MOM WHEN I WAS YOUNGER ALWAYS TOLD ME IT WAS IMPORTANT TO LOVE YOURSELF AND LIKE SPENDING TIME WITH YOURSELF BEFORE YOU COULD LOVE SOMEONE ELSE. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?
Your Mom was absolutely right. Self-love is the key to true happiness. I don’t believe it’s your future partner’s job to make you happy, that’s your responsibility.
I totally agree and was talking to a friend of mine yesterday and I told her that she needed to read your book and realize her happiness isn’t defined by someone else.
IT’S VALENTINE’S DAY AND YOUR SINGLE-WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
Treating it like any other day.
AFTER A LONG DAY WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO TO UNWIND?
I love a good workout I know it sounds crazy but it helps me sleep better. I also like to make a list of things I’d like to accomplish the next day so when I wake up I feel focused.
No, I totally agree, a good sweaty workout to let you get rid of all the nasties of that day and I agree it totally helps you sleep better.
YOUR PERFECT YOU, DATE? THIS COULD BE TAKEN YOURSELF OUT TO DINNER?
I’ve been taking myself on dates for years. Often my dates include watching foreign films, getting a mani-pedi and picking up sushi for dinner.
I have recently started this habit in the last year and I have to admit its fun, I get to do what I want and just enjoy myself without the pressure of someone else. Haha.
FAVORITE THING TO EAT?
French fries, especially the ones at the bottom of the bag.
SAVORY OT SWEET, WHAT DO YOU PREFER?
There you have it, babes, a little more into the mind of Andrea Bain and her thoughts on being single and more. I am telling you if you need to readdress the way you view yourself and relationships pick up this book. Even if you aren’t single it will get the pressure of checking certain boxes off your list. Okay so since I promised you chocolate here goes, my favorite chocolate recipes on the blog.
