5 QUICK AND EASY SELF CARE TIPS TO BOOST YOUR MOOD

May has been all types of crazy. The move that is fast approaching literally has me bouncing up and down with excitement because all the manifestation that’s been going on since last year in August when I fell in love with Boulder. The love affair began when, my brother, momma bear and I took a weekend trip to Denver to convince my mom to move there and ended up in Boulder.

After my traumatic summer, it was the perfecting ending, if you guys remember I was raped last year and go into depth of that experience on another post but that weekend trip took layers of tension and anxiety off.

So you can be totally certain that this move has been everything and more. I am also crazy excited because well as you know I am nature loving hippie and being able to wake up near the mountains literally right outside my bedroom window is like a hug from momma earth. ( I really wanna get some new sheet, if you know of any good organ cotton brands let me know) and a new amazing job which I am thrilled to be a part because it is EXACTLY up my alley, amazing values, amazing food, women-owned and basically just my people.

While I am CRAZY GRATEFUL for all of these wonderful blessings from the universe, all of the new routines and basically adjusting to my new sleep schedule and everything else can definitely affect my mood. I also thought this would be the perfect way to end Mya, mental health awareness month.

FAVORITE WAYS TO BOOST MY MOOD

MOVE. GO ON A HIKE. RIDE YOUR BIKE.

Babes, it’s summer enjoy some time outside, or go for a run, take a spinning class. Whatever you want, do yoga. Whatever it is you like, but get moving, stay active. TRUST. When I have crappy days, I definitely workout more. I tend to go for the more intense workouts, like HIIT. Right now I will be totally honest, I haven’t really felt like going to the gym or doing a HITT class even at home, but I have been taken walks like on Monday I did a three-mile walk to downtown Boulder for the creek festival.

ORGANIZE OR CLEAN.

When I am stressed or just in a weird mood, organizing, throwing out things I don’t use, cleaning, donating, organizing my pantry can totally get me out of that funk. These things help me unwind and kind of sort through my emotions in a way where I am not forcing them in either direction. I coordinated my closet seasonal the other day and it totally made me feel accomplished. It’s something small but does something huge.

SOAK UP VITAMIN D, AU NATURAL.

Okay so in all honesty vitamin d is a natural way to help fight depression and whenever I am feeling down, the first thing my doctor tells me is go on a walk, get some sun, hit the trails. I’m gonna be totally honest with you all, when living in Panama I tested a theory and it was if I was feeling down and I got some vitamin d by laying and exposing my privates if that would help boost my mood. It turns out it did. So whenever I am feeling down, I hit the trails and when I find a place that is not easily found by the public I sit/ lay on a towel for about 15-20 minutes and get soak up some vitamin d. If that is not something I can do then I will just hang outside, read a good book, lay on the grass. VItamin d is great at boosting your mood!

EAT FERMENTED GOODIES.

A healthy gut is a happy gut. The first thing I do when I feel like my mood is going a bit more down than usual, because hello life, is check my diet. Most of the time it means, I haven’t been eating as many omega -threes as I normally do, maybe a bit more sugar. and I instantly amp the fermented goods, and within a couple days, I can really feel my mood, energy and overall self-feeling better. I like using kimchi, kraut, and kefir.

I like kimchi and sauerkraut from Ozuke and in Colorado when I can get my hands on Live Cultures Fermented Foods, I also really like all the different sauerkrauts that The Brinery has.  I like Lifeway for kefir and kefir yogurt.

SIMPLE SIMPLE: SMILE

It sounds ridiculous but smiling does fucking wonders. I mean I tested this theory by exaggerating and that was whenever something that pissed me off I would start laughing. It was a forced af laugh but it still worked. I even applied this when I used to work part-time elsewhere in New Mexico. All my old coworkers laugh their asses off but can say it really does work and I worked at a bank so we get shitty moods. So if you are having a hard time, just smile, literally laugh it off. Your bodies reaction will send signals to your brain and help you produce more endorphins an eventually you will feel happy.

GET YOUR GREEN ON. EAT. COOK WITH IT. SMOKE IT. VAPE. TRUST.

We have a neurotransmitter called anandamide which is sourced to be the real reason we feel that “high” euphoric effect. Anandamide is one of our bodies natural endocannabinoids, and it is known to produce joy and happiness. It also affects our memories, motivation, pain and so much more. So get your hands on some of the green stuff. It will help. I love using cannabis as a way to lift my mood, help with my anxiety, depression, insomnia and so much more. PLEASE check with your healthcare provider if you are taking any medication or making any sudden changes.
