7 Recovery Mantras to Empower You On A Tough Day

What I'm Loving Lately: New Sleeping Hack Relaxium Sleep, Smoothies and More

Mantras found a way into my life about a year or so ago and have really made a positive change in my mental health. I don’t think these are just for when you are in recovery, they’re great tools to incorporate into your daily or weekly routine. I’ve started to repeat them during certain times of the day and the best is right in front of the mirror, at first you feel silly, but trust me over a few days, the empowering feeling starts to sink in.  You can repeat a mantra as much as you want, I sometimes say it ten times, sometimes I say it once and sometimes I repeat it until I forget about whatever problem or situation I might have going on. Sometimes it’s just to bring my mood up, other times it’s to get me out of bed.

SMILE.

Okay so this isn’t necessarily a mantra but you know the saying fake it, till you make it. Well, this is basically the same thing, smile even if it’s fake af at first, do it. Trust me, after a few minutes you will start to feel better. Depending on the situation it might take more than five minutes, just remember this, even if the smile isn’t a real one, you are making the effort and that is half the battle.

MAKE THE DAY YOUR BITCH-

One of my favorite good mood, positive vibes influencer out there is Izzy and her “MAKE THE DAY YOUR BITCH” mantra literally gets me out of bed. In other words, you got this babe, make the day work for you, not the other way around. You can either sit here and complain or keep going and show the day what you are made of. At least that is my interpretation of her mantra.

I’M STRONGER THAN I THINK. I GOT THIS.

THE INSIDE PEAK INTO MY BIPOLAR BRAIN: CONSTANT MOVING

I honestly didn’t think things could be worse than all of the ups and downs I’ve had over the years with my eating disorder and mood disorder but it turns out that last year life showed me just how strong I really was. I had to constantly remind myself how stronger I was and that I could get through this. Trust me, you think you can’t get through something but you can, you really are stronger than you think.

THESE ARE YOUR WINDOWS.

The story behind this mantra of mine is the real power, you see my first psychiatrist was the one that started this trend over ten years ago. I was in the hospital in Panama and was technically ready to go but my release was on hold until I could finish a 10,000 piece puzzle without complaining or getting help from anyone. When I asked her why I had to do these puzzles she shared with me this story about a patient she had and how when he was in the hospital part of his therapy was washing windows. The entire point of washing windows was a way of teaching him patience and balance. The day he washed all the windows on the floor without complaining was the day he was released. Just remember whatever is happening is your window of the moment. It’s there to teach you something.

I AM A BEAUTIFUL, SEXY, INSPIRING, SUCCESSFUL, CREATIVE, POSITIVE, STRONG, GROUNDED FINANCIALLY ABUNDANT WOMEN.

Fill this in with whatever positive words empower you. Sometimes I add anything else that makes me feel at that moment like I can do whatever it is I need to. I am not the best public speaker and I repeat this about ten times everytime I have to do a presentation or have to speak in front of people or anything like that.

I CREATE MY OWN HAPPINESS

The last few months living here in Colorado I have learned that I literally create my own happiness. The entire process of the move and settling in wasn’t the easiest and I literally had to focus on the small things and create my own happiness even when everything else seemed to be falling apart.

FOCUS ON TODAY AND TODAY ONLY. TOMORROW IS STILL ANOTHER DAY.

My move here was financially draining, to say the least, and everything seemed to not work out even if I tried thinking ahead. Then I started to realize even if I try to plan for the inevitable, shit still happens and you might as well just focus on the present and ignore the future. Today is today anything can happen before tomorrow starts.
